Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Over 20 min to get my food. My husband and I were served first, then my kids several minutes later. Why would you serve adults first? Food was hot but only decent and our server was nice, but my daughter was served a blackened dried out cheeseburger for her meal. See the picture I posted if you want to see. I paid 5 bucks for something you couldn't have paid ME to eat. I don't understand all the rave reviews. There are lots of other Mexican restaurants in the area that have better food for the same price.

If you are like me and dislike El Maguey due to their tasteless boiled gr beef and cheap ingredients then this restaurant would be considered several notches below that. I ordered the $9.99 Platter with 2 enchiladas and 1 taco with Rice. The "enchiladas" were tasteless boiled ground beef with a soggy - yep soggy almost ready to fall apart - flour tortillas covered in a red sauce. The taco was the same ground beef in a taco shell with a good handful of grated cheese. The "Mexican Rice" was a very overcooked and tasteless white rice with a pinkish hue. That was IT. No lettuce or any other side. $9.99. Then I ordered a queso cheese dip for the chips which arrived warm in a small cup with my meal. It was so thin that it ran off the chip and didn't stick. I tried to pour a little over the "enchiladas" and again it ran off in a pool. It was about the consistency of milk. I have never experienced a cheese "dip" like this before. It actually should have been served warm in a cup. The big surprise was the charge on my bill for the "dip". $3.99! I asked if it was a mistake and was told no. I get that it costs for overhead and labor. But really? About $.75 to $1.00 ( at most) in ingredients that was poorly prepared. My bill with tax was $15.00 for 1 person and the meal really wasn't worth eating. I drive by this site almost daily and seldom see many cars there and often none. Should have been my hint.

I tried this restaurant out about two years ago and wasn't very impressed. The food was very bland and tasteless. I decided that it was time to try it again and see if it had improved. The salsa that was brought with the chips was very good and tasted fresh. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and was impressed with them. The enchiladas were full of chicken very flavorful. The service was quick and friendly.

I've been driving past this place for years and was never all that curious to check it out. When a dining companion put it on a list of possible places to go, I hopped on Yelp and decided to give it a try based on previous reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't see that much on the menu that made the crossover from barbeque to Mexican (the pulled pork tacos people have mentioned were not available), but it was tasty authentic Mexican. The salsa was good, the chips were fresh. My biggest complaint was the margarita, which tasted like old-time, original Gatorade, with no hint of tequila. They were cheap, but they weren't that good. The entrees, on the other hand, were great. I had the chile verde, with chunks of nicely cooked pork in a spicy tomatillo sauce. The rice was fine, the beans were really really good. Like so much better than beans you've had elsewhere. My companion had a combo plate with a burrito and a taco, and loved them both. The service was good, and other than not having a beer listed on the menu, everything was fine. I'll definitely be back to check it out again.

We have been driving past this place for a long time. We went to warrensburg a couple weeks ago and I saw the name on the menu at copper coyote So I saw some good reviews and we tried it today. I got the burrito Azteca with smoked chopped pork, beans and smothered in their green sauce and guacamole. I got the sauce on the side since I am always aware of heat but this came out and was great. The meat was tender, it had a huge portion if quac ample on it and was not soaking in cheese. The sauce was amazing and so flavorful with the right amount of heat. Husband had the ribs, said they were a bit salty but still good and his French fries were double fried nice and crunchy. Their chips and salsa were also great. We will be going back for sure!

I have been wanting to try for a while now, since it was in Blue Springs. Tryed the pulled pork taco and a burito overall I liked the pulled pork taco best. It was good. They do charge 1.00 a bowl for the extra hot sauce but was worth it. The service was great almost enough to raise overall score to 4 stars but I usually rate on food so 3 stars. Will come back to try their ribs.

I remember when this building was Backdraft BBQ a long time ago! I loved Backdraft, but had never been in since it became Las Playas. A friend and I recently ate here for the first time ever and we really enjoyed ourselves. It's nothing over the top; the environment was relaxing and the servers were very polite. They had a nice patio with several people sitting outside and eating. And the food was delicious. I had the seafood enchiladas and my date was satisfied with what she had as well (however, I can't remember which dish it was). We both came hungry and left stuffed. Highly recommended.

I eat at this place frequently with friends. Every time we have the owner/manager as the server, he seems annoyed. Last night, it took over 5 min to get drinks. Once we were ready to order, he seemed irritated like he didn't want us there and rushed us through our orders. The food is good and the restaurant is clean. But it offsets the owner being rude. They don't have much service as it is.. I would hate to see this place close because the owner is a douche.

Went tonight with the girlfriend to celebrate cinco de mayo and the atmosphere was average compared to any other Mexican restaurant. Drink specials were nice, 5.00 dollars for a 27oz margarita (lime only) or a pitcher of bud light for 5.00 dollars. Food specials were just as good; 3 beef hard shell tacos, rice and beans for 5.99/3 beef enchiladas, rice and beans for 5.99 as well. The service we received was great, although the kitchen took about 35 minutes to get our food out which we both had the special. I had the tacos and the meat wasn't anything special but overall a good experience. Will be back for the cheap prices.

My wife and I have frequented this wonderful establishment on several occasions, and have yet to be disappointed. I have found a favorite, the Azteca Burrito! an amazing, flavorful, smoked pork stuffed bite of deliciousness! Every bite was soooo good! I personally enjoyed the salsa and the chips, maybe not the best thing in the world, however they are freshly made and again they are chips and salsa that taste very good.......anyway, I highly recommend Las Playas, very reasonably priced (lunch time) great service, great food, and I/we look forward to our future visits! With my experiences of Mexican food restaurants in the Blue Springs area this place certainly deserves 5 stars!

I'm upping the stars tonight for 1 reason and 1 reason only - Smoked Pulled Pork Tacos. Oh, and the $2.99 27oz margaritas didn't hurt either. Since this place offers a full BBQ menu and Mexican menu I figured it was worth a shot, and it was. The waitress was more than happy to accommodate and I may have a new favorite taco. I made the mistake of trying a fish taco this time which was not worth it. I will admit they're not packing much into their tacos, especially compared to some of the Mexican street tacos you can get in KCK, but if you stick to the pork and particularly the smoked pork off the BBQ menu you won't be disappointed.

Stumbled upon this place while looking for a place that was open for lunch on a Sunday. Very good food! The seafood enchiladas were smothered in white cheese sauce and were delicious. My husband had the steak vera cruz and he said it was delicious as well.
